Playing with paint.
Playing with paint is surprisingly difficult at first. I found it hard to cover the board, to use the paint thick enough while at the same time enabling it to flow. I learnt that Cryla acrylic paint is fantastically thick and had to be watered down a lot for my purposes. I started to use System 3 with a dash of water and got on a lot better after that. I had previously been using huge amounts of heavy gel medium with my acrylics to get it to be more like oil paint, so now I felt like I was actually discovering how to use acrylics. The old definition of madness quote, about doing the same thing and expecting different results, if I wanted a different kind of mark I needed a different consistency of paint. This road I was setting off on seemed very long and hilly. Here are two panels where I was simply playing with paint. They look very cautious in terms of layering and covering things up but I am just beginning to do that here.
